I suck. It's July and I've been absent. I partially blame my broken camera, but that's lame and it only broke last week anyway.
Bygones.
My anedote from today: Like most parents, I typically try to contain Carly's tv time to a few short shows while Teddy is napping. I try. I do not always succeed, especially if I have to get a lot done or shower or update the blog. You get the idea. Today we had a pretty active morning, but we were running errands, so when we got home and Teddy went down for his nap, Carly started begging me to watch tv. I told her "no." I explained that she had to exercise her imagination or else it would shrivel up and go away. Then she asked me what her imagination was and I explained that it was when she played with her animals, drew pictures, or read books and made up fun things in her head. She trotted off to the playroom and played for a bit, but then she returned. She again begged me to let her watch a show. I said "not yet." Then she sat down at the table behind me and said, "Well mom, look at me. I'm sitting here and pretending to watch tv. See, I'm using my imagination." She is still 3, for a few more days anyway, but she burns me like this all the time. After laughing for a few minutes, I caved.
I am already plotting when I'm going to burn her back. Next time she asks if she can have a treat, I'm going to tell her that I'm imagining giving it to her. Take that, sucker!
